Staten, Price, 1600 relay team to represent Tigers

The Sedalia Democrat

The Smith-Cotton boys track and field team is sending two individuals and one relay team to the Class 4 state meet.

Sharaden Staten qualified in the 110-meter high hurdles. Blake Price reached state in discus and the 1600 relay team qualified.

Price won the discus event in a Class 4 sectional meet Saturday at Camdenton. Price threw an unofficial distance of just over 156 feet, according to S-C coach Brad Hagedorn.

Staten turned in a personal-best time to finish third in the high hurdles.

The relay team of Andrew Byrd, Brandon and Brent Katzing and Ethan Warren finished fourth.

“I’m extremely excited,” Hagedorn said. “The 4-by-4 kind of made it up. That was the last event of the day and (there  are) three senior boys on that team that deserve to go down and run at state. I was extremely excited for them because they worked their tails off for four years and now they get to experience the greatest day in track of the whole season.”
