Two girls from The Democrat’s coverage area won all-state medals Friday at the Missouri state track and field championships in Jefferson City.
The top eight finishers in each event won all-state honors.
Megan Sheffield, of Windsor, placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 3.25 inches. Anessa Alexander, of Strafford, won with an effort of 35-10.
Chelsey Hainen, of Tipton, tied for third in the high jump (5-0). Lindsay Vollmer, of Penney, won with a jump of 5-4.
Several other local athletes qualified for the finals:
•Lori Mortenson, of Tipton, won her 100 heat in 12.33. The top eight times in the preliminary races advanced to today’s finals.
•Knob Noster’s Carrie Binder, Brianna Blacklock, Christina Jones and Sarah Tyler placed second in their 400 relay heat in 50.75.
•Knob Noster’s Binder, Blacklock, Jones and Tyler placed second in their 800 relay heat in 1:47.47.
•Christina Jones, of Knob Noster, placed fourth in her 100 heat in 12.67.
In other results involving local athletes:
•Tory Kramer, of St. Paul Lutheran, placed 11th in the 800 in 2:26.86. Dallis Bailey, of Conway, won in 2:19.80.
•London Cline, of Smithton, placed 15th in the 800 in 2:42.55. Taylor Rivera, of Miller, won in 2:24.44.
Cline placed 15th in 1600 in 6:05.96. Rivera won in 5:22.72.
•Kristen Jones, of Sweet Springs, placed 15th in the discus with a throw of 93-09. Kyleigh Parrish, of Rock Port, won with a heave of 115-00.
•Lauren Smith, of Warsaw, placed 16th in the 1600 in 5:51.63. Megan Kowalik, of Wright City, won in 5:11.95.
•Amelia Truex, of Pilot Grove, placed 16th in the long jump (13-3). Melissa McGinley, of Albany, won with a jump of 16-9.25.
