Roundup: Gremlins breeze, improve to 3-0 in volleyball

Sacred Heart had little trouble improving to 3-0 on the volleyball season with a 25-13, 25-9 victory Thursday over Sweet Springs at Sacred Heart.

Courtney Curtiss had six kills, 10 points and seven aces for the Gremlins. Paige Shipley and Laura McMullin also had six kills and Shipley scored five points.

Rachel Fischer paced Sacred Heart in digs with nine and scored six points.

The Sacred Heart junior varsity also moved to 3-0 with a 25-19, 23-25, 25-12 win.

The Gremlins’ C-team won its match 25-16, 25-11. 

Lincoln 2, Windsor 0

Shyanne Swearngin had 12 points, 10 digs and even assists and Alex Cooke six kills and four blocks as Lincoln swept Windsor 25-23, 25-16 in a match Thursday.

Kayla Downing, Cooke and Audra Blackburn had two service aces apiece for the Cardinals. Trisha Cook had eight digs.

Lincoln also won the junior varsity match 25-10, 25-11.

 

SOCCER

St. Paul advanced to the championship game of the Smithton Classic with a 6-3 victory over Clinton in a semifinal game Thursday.

St. Paul will meet the winner of the late Thursday game between the Columbia Hickman junior varsity and La Monte for the title tonight.

In consolation games Thursday, Cole Camp defeated Green Ridge 6-2 and Smithton blanked Holden 6-0.

Adam Wagenknecht scored a hat trick for Smithton with four goals, and Sean Loomis got the shutout in goal.

Spencer Howell and Zack Price had one goal apiece for the Tigers.

Smithton and Cole Camp will play for the consolation title at 4 p.m. today.

The third-place game will be at 5:30 and the championship game at 7.

 

GIRLS  GOLF

Smith-Cotton golfer Amanda Azan shot an 85, good for 10th place out of 90 golfers Wednesday at the Richmond tournament at Shirkey Golf Course.

The Lady Tigers placed 11th overall out of 18 teams with a score of 426.

Rounding out S-C’s total were Jenny Swafford with a 109, Lauren Azan 110, Casey Hurley 122 and Laura Hancock 125.
