ROUNDUP: Grems take league tourney

The Sedalia Democrat

Sacred Heart won the Kaysinger Conference boys golf tournament Monday at Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall.

The Gremlins shot a 355, beating second-place Lincoln by 20 strokes.

Stover placed third with a 391, Green Ridge and Smithton tied for fourth with a 416, and Cole Camp was last with a 468.

Green Ridge’s Matt Lenz won the individual championship with a 3-over 75.

Sacred Heart’s Jaron Lucchesi was the only other golfer to break 80. He shot a 79 to take second.

Will Register’s 88, Garrett Kelchner’s 90 and Wes Register’s 98 rounded out the Gremlins’ team score.

The top nine individuals made the all-conference team.

Jacob Bancroft, of Lincoln, and Cody Williams, of Smithton, tied for third with an 84. Will Register was fifth with an 88. Buddy Dill, of Lincoln, was sixth with an 89.

Kyle Brethower, of Lincoln, and Kelchner tied for seventh with a 90. Ethan Shackelford, of Stover, was ninth with a 92.

The following players received  honorable mentions: Cody Brown, of Cole Camp; Max Esser, of Sacred Heart; Jeremy Howard, of Smithton; Wes Mueller, of Stover; Jacob Smith, of Lincoln; and Lucas Smith, of Green Ridge.

West Central tournament

Smith-Cotton placed fifth out of six teams Monday at the West Central Conference boys golf tournament at Hodge Park Golf Course in Kansas City.

Warrensburg won with a 306, Harrisonville was second with a 322, O’Hara third with 331, St. Pius X fourth with 334, Smith-Cotton had a 336, and Clinton was sixth with a 348.

Ryan Marks, of Warrensburg, was the medalist, shooting a 3-under 69.

Jacob Burkholder led the Tigers with a 78, earning first-team all-conference honors.

Nick Banner’s 84, Tommy Squires’ 84 and John Carroll’s 90 rounded out the Tigers’ team score.
