S-C boys team up to win Clawson Relays
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Smith-Cotton won nine of 18 events Saturday to win the nine-team Ron Clawson Relays boys track and field meet in Warrensburg.
The Tigers accumulated 131 points in the relays-only event. Warrensburg was second with 94, and Chillicothe was third with 83.
“You have to have a lot of depth across the board to do well in an event like this,” S-C coach Brad Hagedorn said. The boys “put on a show.”
Smith-Cotton’s girls placed fourth out of nine teams.
“The girls took fourth this year after finishing eighth last year,” Hagedorn said. “The girls scored in 17 of the 18 events.”
Darren Heaton, Cody Resch, Kyle Drexler and Jose Ojeda won the 6400-meter relay.
Resch, Isai Ramirez, Heaton and Ojeda won the distance relay.
Heaton, Anthony Beck, Drexler and Ojeda won the 3200.
Ramirez, Tompkins, Ethan Warren and Sharaden Staten won the 440 shuttle hurdles.
Jeff Crouch, Brandon Goodman, and Cameron Owens won the shot put relay.
In field events, each team took its top three throws or jumps to come up with a team score. The highest score wins the event.
Goodman, Owens and Blake Price won the discus.
Brandon Katzing, Brent Katzing and Staten won the high jump.
Brandon Katzing, Tompkins and Warren won the triple jump.
Shawn Tompkins, Raymon Arias, Jake Schumacher and Andrew Byrd won the ninth- and 10th-grade 800.
Ruskin won the girls meet with 121 points. Chillicothe placed second with 109, Odessa was third with 86, and Smith-Cotton finished with 85.
Claire Waldo, Anesha Sims, Brianna Platt and Audrey VanDyne won the 6400.
VanDyne, Sims, Jenny Paul and Elizabeth Ulmer won the distance relay.
Amanda Azan, Kristi Miller, Paul and Ulmer placed second in the 1600.
Ulmer, VanDyne, Waldo and Paul placed third in the 3200.
Jordan Aldrich, Kyra Kendrick, Caitlin Craig and Alexis Benton finished third in the ninth- and 10th-grade 400.
Kendrick, Ulmer, Benton and Waldo placed third in the ninth- and 10th-grade 800.
Knob Noster’s girls finished eighth with 52 points.
Brianna Blacklock, Sarah Tyler, Kyra Williams and Christina Jones won the 800.
Kourtney Cherry, Marquisha Fewell, Candi Mueller and Cindy Ramirez placed second in the throwers relay.
Blacklock, Williams, Jones and Carrie Binder placed second in the sprint relay.
Blacklock, Tyler, Jones and Amber Betancourt finished fourth in the 1600.
Knob Noster’s boys placed fifth with 66 points.
Mike Regan, Cullen Rosine and Brad Ake placed second in the high jump.
Brad Dylan, Regan, Tony Demma and Joel Krause finished second in the 1600.
Krause, Ake, Colby Brand and Demma placed second in the distance relay.
Joe Rittman, Drew Smith, Kenny Noland and Kenny Landreneau placed third in the throwers relay.
Orie Sahlfeld, Riley Grivevesbester, Trevor Bolton and Zack Hodson placed third in the freshman 400.
Chris Stehle, Brand, Rosine and Krause placed fourth in the 1600.
