JUNIOR ROUNDUP: Sacred Heart dominates first Kaysinger foes

Points were hard to get for the Smithton junior high boys basketball team on Thursday night.

The Sacred Heart Gremlins set the tone with a 15-0 first quarter and rolled to a 45-6 Kaysinger Conference win at Smithton.

The Gremlins (4-0, 2-0) led 24-4 at halftime and 36-6 after three quarters.

Jared Dey made four 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 14 points. He added five steals.

Rock Curry had 10 points. Lakin Kehde had eight points, seven steals and three assists.

Reid Swearingen led the Gremlins with seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

Sacred Heart 46, La Monte 14

Jared Dey outscored La Monte all by himself Monday night in a junior high boys basketball game at Sacred Heart School.

Dey scored 15 points. Bradley O’Connor had nine points and six steals.

Reid Swearingen had eight points, a team-high seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

Lakin Kehde paced Sacred Heart had a team-high four assists and six steals.

Higbee 29, Pilot Grove 14

The Pilot Grove junior varsity boys basketball team looked rusty Tuesday night in its loss at Higbee.

“One could tell we had not played in over a month,” coach Rick Grunden said. “We had way too many turnovers. The kids played hard and did not give up. We will learn and be better next time.”

Preston Reuter and Colin Triebcsch scored four points each for Pilot Grove. Bryon Bartolocci paced Higbee with nine points.

Higbee led 15-6 after one quarter of the two-quarter game.

GIRLS

Northwest 30, Stover 26

The Northwest Lady Mustangs outscored Stover in the third quarter Thursday night to win the junior high girls basketball game.

Northwest (1-1) led 5-4 after one quarter but trailed 10-9 at halftime.

The Lady Mustangs carried a 25-19 lead into the final quarter.

Meghan Locke paced Northwest with 14 points. Paige Norfleet added eight.

Kristin Wilson led Stover with eight points.

The Lady Mustangs beat Stover 12-9 in a 20-minute, running clock “B” game.

Caitlin Alexander had four points for Northwest, which improved to 2-0. Raelyn Baughman and Katelin Goetz had four each for Stover.

Lincoln 25, Northwest 23

The Lincoln Lady Cardinals made an 11-0 first-quarter lead hold up Monday night in a 25-23 win over Northwest.

Northwest gradually worked back into the game, slicing its deficit 13-6 at halftime and 19-14 after three quarters.

Meghan Cooke paced Tipton with seven points. Paige Norfleet had seven, and Morgann Gregory six for Northwest.

Northwest beat Lincoln 8-6 in a 20-minute, running clock “B” game. Tonya Simmons paced Northwest with four points.

Pilot Grove 25, Higbee 7

Ciara Schlozhauer scored six points Tuesday night for the Pilot Grove junior varsity girls basketball team.

Niki Hill had a team-high six rebounds, and Kendra Wessing had five steals.

Channel Fisher led Higbee with four points.
