The Sedalia Democrat

Smith-Cotton shot out to a quick start Monday en route to a 7-3 victory over Camdenton in the first round of the Class 4, District 10, baseball tournament in Jefferson City.

Adam Archibeque tripled on the first pitch, and Alex Lang doubled on the next pitch as the Tigers took a 1-0 lead. They never trailed.

The Tigers added another run in the first, one in the second and four in the fifth to finish off Camdenton. Camdenton tied the score at 3 in the top of the fifth.

Bryce Johnson dominated on the pitcher’s mound. He gave up three runs on three hits — only one to the outfield — and one walk, and he struck out 12 including the final three of the game. Cody Moore took the loss.

Dustin Broaddus led the Tigers’ 11-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Jared Hagedorn and Dylan Mays had two hits each.

The Tigers (8-15) will take on top-seeded Hickman in a semifinal at 4:30 p.m. today in Jefferson City.
