Lady Tigers take second

The Sedalia Democrat

HARRISONVILLE — The Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers took second Friday in the West Central Conference track and field meet.

The team finished with 130 points, only trailing  Warrensburg, which finished with 186.

Heading into the meet, Hagedorn felt his team had an outside chance of winning the meet because of the team’s depth.

“I thought with more girls on the team this year, we could have a chance to win the meet,” Hagedorn said. “Even though we finished second, it shows that our girls have been improving all year.”

The 3,200-meter relay team (10 minutes, 33 seconds) and Jenny Paul in the 1,600-meter run 5 minutes, 33 seconds) earned first-place finishes.

Paul, a junior, not only won the 1600, but she won the 800 and placed second in the 400.

“Paul just has been stepping it up all year,” Hagedorn said. “She has been good all year, but today she was huge in winning two events and getting us points for our team.”

Claire Waldo and Audrey Van Dyne took third and fourth, respectively, in the 1600.

Amanda Azan finished third in the 100 (13.38), and Tori Denny finished third in the discus and shot put.
