Roundup: Grems roll to tourney victory

Lakin Kehde scored a hat trick plus one with four goals and Nate Bailey got a shutout in goal as Sacred Heart blanked Cameron 8-0 in a consolation game at the Barstow boys soccer tournament on Thursday.

Wes Register added two goals and Kit Adderley and Jon Starke had one goal apiece for the Gremlins, who rebounded from a 5-1 first-round loss to Platte County on Tuesday.

The Gremlins will play for fifth place at 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

Stover 2, Holden 1

Tyler Wilson stopped Holden’s last penalty kick in a shootout as Stover won its opening boys soccer game of the season, 2-1 on Tuesday.

The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, with Thatcher Wehmeyer scoring Stover’s goal on Ethan Braun’s assist late in the first half.

After scoreless overtime periods, Jesse Sack gave Stover the initial lead in the shootout, and Holden tied it with its third kicker scoring. Justin Rosa put the Bulldogs up 2-1 from the fourth spot before Wilson’s game-saving stop on the last Eagle kicker.

Stover had two goals called back in regulation and had 28 shots on goal to six for Holden.

VOLLEYBALL

Knob Noster def. Sherwood 25-20, 25-23

Knob Noster overcame a scrappy Sherwood team to win its season opener.

Autumn Kolkmeier led the Lady Panthers’ offense with five kills. Katie Murphy and Kelly Malcolm added three kills apiece and Britney Murphy had two.

Britney Murphy led the defense with 10 digs, Christina Jones had six assists and three service aces and Kyra Williams had four aces.

“We got to run some new offense, which will hopefully give the girls confidence going into next week,” Knob Noster coach Jennifer Goodrich said.

Santa Fe def. Smithton 25-13, 25-9

Tigers coach Lisa Tatum said her young team showed great improvement in staying competitive in the first game before the home team took over in the second.

Tatum said Kyli Ferraro had the best all-around play for the Tigers while Brittney Millsap played well defensively, Karla Schnuscht had four kills and Kaci Ferraro recorded two service aces.

SOFTBALL

Osage 2, Warsaw 1

Osage pushed across a run with two out in the sixth inning for the margin of victory on Tuesday.

Kasi Moore scored Warsaw’s run in the third when she singled and came around to score on a passed ball and an error.

Kelli Wenberg pitched a five-hitter for Warsaw, striking out nine and walking none over seven innings.

Wenberg also led the Wildcats’ offense, going 2-for-4. Moore, Haeley Kreisel, Aubry Grenoble and Kelsie Moore had their other hits.
