St. Dominic, Ozark secure state titles

Kyle Kiely threw a five-hit shutout Saturday to lead St. Dominic to the Class 3 state baseball championship.

Kiely (7-1) struck out three and walked one in leading the Crusaders to an 8-0 win over Webb City at Meador Park in Springfield.

Will Mulligan doubled home two runs and Tony Schulte hit an RBI single to give St. Dominic (26-3) a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

Maury Wilmes bunted back to the pitcher to drive home Joe West in the second. Alex Larkin singled home Kevin O’Very in the third.

In the sixth, Mulligan singled home Wilmes, and Jesse Carter hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Schulte.

Larkin drove home Mike Fowler with a single in the seventh.

Jerick Swarens (6-2) allowed five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Webb City finished 24-6.

Boonville (21-3) and Notre Dame of Cape Girardeau (19-7) will share third place after their game was rained out Saturday morning.

CLASS 4

Ozark scored two runs in the sixth inning Saturday to win the Class 4 state championship.

Ozark (24-3) beat Francis Howell 3-2.

Corey Wiley doubled home pinch-runner Tom Wagaman to tie the score at 2.

Matt Jordan singled home the go-ahead run.

Francis Howell had led  since the first  inning when they scored two runs on Kyle Behr’s single.

Ozark sliced into that deficit with one run in the bottom of the first on Ethan Mather’s single to center field.

Matt Jordan (5-2) gave up two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and four walks in seven innings.

Austin Buenemann (6-2) permitted three runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks in six innings.

Francis Howell finished 24-4.

St. Louis University High (20-7) and Oak Park (19-11) will share third place after their game was canceled because of rain.
