Allison, Sadler share crown
Comments 0 | Recommend 0BOLIVAR — Two local golfers took a share of the Class 1 state title and two more took home all-state honors Tuesday at Silo Ridge and Country Club.
Windsor’s Josh Sadler closed a two-stroke deficit and took home a share of the championship, which he shared with Tipton senior Trey Allison and J.D. Nash.
“I made a lot of good shots and I made a lot of good putts,” said Sadler. “I left a lot on the table today but I can’t be too disappointed. I thought I was going to win it outright there. I just hit some bad shots.”
Sadler trailed by two strokes heading into the final day. After a double bogey on the first hole of the morning, his championship hopes appeared to come to an end.
However, he rebounded nicely and birdied the next hole.
Sadler finished the front nine with a two-over 38, still three strokes behind Allison for the lead.
The consistency of Sadler paid off on the back nine.
Sadler continued to hit his fairways off the tee and make big putts when it counted.
His only slip-up came on the 12th hole where he double-bogeyed. Other than that, he remained solid.
Sadler waited for his time and after Allison triple-bogeyed hole No. 13, Sadler sunk an important par putt that knotted the score.
On the final hole, Sadler’s chip from the fringe just missed the cup by a few inches and sent the large gallery of spectators into a groan of disbelief.
“This course is really set up for my drive,” said Sadler who hit the fairway throughout the tournament. “I can hit a fade and on that last hole it helped out tremendously. I’m happy with my performance, I can’t complain.”
Sacred Heart’s Jaron Lucchesi snuck into the top 15 with a two-day total of 161.
Lucchesi placed in the top 10 at state for the second consecutive year.
Matt Lenz missed the all-state cutoff by one stroke. Lenz shot a combined total of 165, placing him in a tie for 16th.
“I played pretty decent except for three holes that really got me,” Lenz said. “It was just a bad run of a couple holes both days, bad run.”
Buddy Dill, from Lincoln, shot an 86 on the final day, giving him a two-day total of 182.
Jacob Bancroft shot a 95 on Tuesday, giving him a total of 191 and a tie for 80th.
Garrett Kelchner and Will Register, both of Sacred Heart, shot two-day totals of 191 and 197, respectively, and Ethan Shackleford, of Stover, finished with a two -day total of 212.
