ROUNDUP: Slow start dooms S-C

The state-ranked Hickman Kewpies jumped ahead 6-0 after four innings Tuesday and beat Smith-Cotton 9-5.
The Kewpies, ranked No. 6 in Class 4, advanced to the championship game of the Class 4, District 10, baseball tournament.
S-C sliced its deficit to 6-3 in the fifth, but the Kewpies responded with three in the bottom half to restore their advantage.
Drew Mitrisin was the winning pitcher, and Dylan Mays took the loss.
Adam Archibeque led the Tigers with two hits including a double and an RBI.
Derik Kinde had two singles. Bryce Johnson doubled. Dustin Broaddus and Jared Hagedorn each singled and had an RBI.
Drew Hutinger singled, and Ryan Paul drew a bases-loaded walk.
Sacred Heart 11, Otterville 1
Jason Lamb hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and Jacob Melick pitched five two-hit innings Tuesday at Leeton.
The Gremlins won their fourth straight game to advance to the semifinals of the Class 1, District 14, baseball tournament.
Melick allowed one run with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings. Tyler Oswald took the loss.
Sam Liston led Sacred Heart’s nine-hit attack with two hits including a double. Seven other players had one hit apiece.
Sacred Heart (7-6) will face top-seeded Leeton at 4 p.m. today.
Cole Camp 13, Windsor 3
Windsor jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the first inning but mustered only one hit and four base runners the rest of the way Tuesday night at Windsor.
Tyler Rusk hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to cap a three-run inning in the semifinal round of the Class 2, District 14, baseball tournament.
Top-seeded Cole Camp added two runs in the second, one in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Ron Herdman was the winning pitcher. He gave up one hit in 5 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and four walks.
Corey Buford took the loss.
Trenton Miller went 3-for-3 with five RBIs to lead Cole Camp. Garrett Gilbert went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Cole Camp will face Lincoln in the championship game at 6 p.m. today in Windsor.
Lincoln 7, Tipton 6
Earl Pierce drove home the game-winner with a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday in the semifinals of the Class 2, District 14, baseball tournament at Windsor.
The score was tied at 2 after four innings. Tipton took a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth. Lincoln scored five of the final six runs.
Pierce finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Alec Crull went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Josiah Casey had one hit and one RBI.
Logan Treece (5-1) gave up three earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and three walks in seven innings.
Frederick Franken took the loss, allowing no earned runs on two hits with one strikeout in 1/3 of an inning.
Lakeland 17, Smithton 4
Second-seeded Lakeland scored seven runs in each of the first two innings Monday to win the first-round game of the Class 1, District 14, baseball tournament in Leeton.
Sean Smith took the loss, pitching the first 1 2/3 innings.
Cody Walker paced Smithton with two hits including a double in two at-bats. Ethan Marino went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Matt Stockstill scored two runs.
Lakeland will face Green Ridge in the semifinals at 2 p.m. today in Leeton. Green Ridge beat Montrose 16-2 in Monday’s other first-round game.
