ROUNDUP: Cole Camp wins slugfest

The Cole Camp Bluebirds outlasted Lakeland on Thursday night in a slugfest.

 

Cole Camp’s pitcher, Quincy Harms, scored the Bluebirds’ winning run on a triple to defeat Lakeland 22-20.

 

In an error-riddled game, the Bluebirds posted six runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings to emerge victors.

 

Harms went 2-for-3 with four RBIs for the Bluebirds. She also struck out 10 Lakeland batters.

 

Heather Gardner also had a solid game offensively. Gardner went 2-for-4 with five RBIs.

 

La Monte 14, Leeton 4

 

The La Monte Lady Vikings scored nine runs in the fourth inning to defeat Leeton 14-4 Thursday night.

 

Briana Davis struck out 11 Leeton batters and only allowed a single earned run to claim the victory for the Lady Vikings.

 

La Monte trailed at the end of the first inning 2-0,  but was  able to post three runs in the third to take the lead for good.

 

Chante Holcombe led the way for the Lady Vikings, going 3-for-3.

 

Smithton 14, St. Mary’s 0

 

The Smithton Tigers shut out St. Mary’s in its third game of the St. Mary’s Tournament 14-0. The Tigers drove home seven runs in the second inning as Smithton cruised to the victory. 

 

Smithton starting pitcher Brittney Hotsenpiller took the win for the Tigers.

 

Concordia 9, Smithton 1

The Smithton Tigers took home a second-place finish Thursday night in the St. Mary’s Tournament. 

The Tigers could only manage three hits as they fell to Concordia 9-1.

 

Alysha Case took the loss for the Tigers.

 

Smithton 6, Sherwood 4

Smithton 3, Santa Fe 2

Smithton rallied in the last inning both times to pull out victories at the St. Mary’s tournament on Wednesday.

 

The Lady Tigers trailed 2-0 entering the seventh inning against Santa Fe. Melissa  Williams tied the scored with a two-run single, and Jacyn Klein then dove across the plate after a passed ball to give Smithton a 3-2 victory.

 

Against Sherwood, the Tigers pushed two runs across in the sixth inning to snap a 4-4 tie and take a 6-4 win in a game shortened by the time-limit rule.

Sedel Moreno had three hits, Jillian Burroughs scored two runs and Alysa Cairer doubled and had two RBIs against Sherwood. Brittney Hotsenpiller was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits and striking out eight.

 

Alysha Case got the win against Santa Fe, tossing a two-hitter and striking out 11 while walking only one. Kathy Plummer went 2-for-3, Cairer tripled and Williams had two RBIs.
