ROUNDUP: Burrows, Case shut door on Prairie Home
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Jillian Burrows and Alysha Case unleashed their “A” game Tuesday at Prairie Home, leading the Smithton softball team to a 21-0 victory.
Burrows went 4-for-4 with thee doubles, a home run and seven RBIs and scored four runs for Smithton.
Case pitched three perfect innings in a game that was called early because of the mercy rule. She struck out all nine batters she faced.
Alysa Cairer went 2-for-3 with a home run, and Melissa Williams went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Northwest 14, Leeton 0
Northwest’s two seniors went out in style Tuesday in a softball game at Leeton.
Kelcey Dankenbring went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three stolen bases. Ashton Miller went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Junior Shadow Wiskur went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Mariah Wiskur (11-1) pitched five one-hit innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Northwest, which finished the season 13-1, scored three runs in the first, four in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth.
La Monte 9, Sweet Springs 7
The La Monte softball team scored eight runs in the first two innings and an important insurance run in the fifth Tuesday in La Monte.
Briana Davis hit an RBI single, and Sara Bell doubled home a pair of runs in the first inning.
Davis hit a two-run double in the second. Chante Holcombe tripled home Davis. Holcombe and Lacie Holcombe scored on passed balls.
Sweet Springs scored four runs in the fourth to slice its deficit to 8-7.
Becky Opfer drove home Lindsey Wessel with a grounder to second base in the fifth to secure the win for La Monte.
Davis was the winning pitcher. She gave up seven runs on five hits with 12 strikeouts in seven innings.
