Tigers pummel St. Pius X; Concordia also wins big
Flashing some power, Smith-Cotton’s baseball team clinched at least a share of the West Central Conference championship with a 16-4 win over St. Pius X in five innings Friday evening in Kansas City.
Hunter Bunker hit a grand slam and Jordan Dey launched a three-run homer to fuel a nine-run first, and after a five-run second, Dominique Smith drilled a two-run homer in the third to cap off the hit parade.
Smith was a triple shy of the cycle with three hits, and Bunker, Dey and Alex Lang had two hits each and combined for nine RBIs.
On the mound for the Tigers, Kendal Brown pitched a complete-game gem. The 6-foot, 7-inch hard-throwing right-hander struck out nine and allowed four runs — three earned — on four hits and a pair of walks.
The Tigers will await the results of Warrensburg, which finishes up its WCC schedule with two games next week, to determine whether they’ll split the league crown or earn it outright.
Concordia 21, Wentworth 0
Jacob Harms pitched a two-hit, complete game and Concordia rode a 14-run second inning to a 21-0 win over Wentworth on Friday night at home.
Harms struck out nine and allowed just two hits over five innings for the win, and his support was overwhelming.
JR Langkrahr, Cale Brunkhorst and Drew Smith each went 3-for-3 and combined for eight RBIs, and Hayden Brown, Carter Brown and Collin Werths each logged two hits and combined for six RBIs.
