It's Cardinals' third-straight unbeaten slate

The Tipton Cardinals completed their third straight undefeated season Friday night, routing Northwest 48-6.

The Cardinals, whose seniors went 39-1, won the Class 1, District 8 title with the lopsided victory.

Tipton’s seniors lost only one regular-season game, their first against Versailles, 34-20, in 2006.

Keil Allison, Burt Barbour, Chris Brock, Jonathan Loganbill, Dallas Peoples and Aaron Ray were among the Tipton players to score a touchdown Friday night.

The Cardinals (10-0) will host Lone Jack in  a regional playoff at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Sweet Springs beat Sacred Heart 32-0 Friday night at Lincoln to earn the district’s other playoff berth.

Sweet Springs (5-5) will face University Charter at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Kansas City.

Warsaw 14, El Dorado Springs 8, 4OT

The Warsaw Wildcats football team completed an undefeated season Thursday night on treacherous field conditions at El Dorado Springs.

The Wildcats finished 10-0 after a 14-8 quadruple overtime win over El Dorado Springs for the Class 2, District 12 championship.
Warsaw won its fourth straight district championship and will host Pierce City (6-4) at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Wildcats and Bulldogs played on a muddy field where footing was difficult and holding on to the ball was equally hard.

“I told the coaches, ‘I don’t know if this is going to see who the best team is or who can hang on to the ball the best,’ ” Warsaw coach Randy Morrow said.

The Wildcats thought they had won the game in the second overtime period. (Each team starts at the opposing team’s 20-yard line. Each team keeps possession until it either scores or runs out of down.) They drove to the 1-yard line and faced a fourth-down play.

Morrow said the coaching staff took the blame for the play. Morrow said he wanted to attempt a field goal, a couple of the coaches wanted to go for it, and the kids were indecisive.

“The kids looked down,” Morrow said. “That wasn’t typical of our team.”

Ray Hoover scored the game-winner on a 5-yard run up the middle in the fourth quarter, according to Morrow. Warsaw missed on the 2-point conversion try.

El Dorado Springs lined up at the 20, facing elimination of it didn’t score a touchdown.

The snap went through the quarterback’s hands on the first play, and Warsaw recovered to win.

The game was scoreless at halftime. El Dorado Springs fumbled on its first possession of the third quarter, and the Wildcats recovered.

Kris Yonker scored on a 10- to 12-yard run, according to Morrow, and quarterback Nolan Flores connected with Hoover for the 2-point conversion.

The Bulldogs inherited a short field after fielding a low punt by Warsaw in the fourth quarter. They scored a touchdown and 2-point conversion to tie the score at 8.

Morrow estimated that the teams combined for 20 turnovers on the muddy field. Warsaw had seven fumbles and four interceptions, the coach said.
