Tigers break five records in WCC meet

The Smith-Cotton Tigers dominated the West Central Conference boys swim meet Saturday at Sedalia Middle School.

The Tigers won all 12 events and placed three in the top five in all but two of the individual races.

S-C swimmers set conference records in five events.

The Tigers finished with 482 points, easily beating second-place St. Pius X by 174. O’Hara was a distant third with 71.

Jeff Crouch, Ehan Sherman and Derrek Thomas won two events each.

Crouch won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.85 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 53.98.

Sherman won the 200 freestyle in a conference-record 1 minute, 54.64
seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:38.39.

Thomas won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.66 and the 100 butterfly in a conference-record 1:01.57.

Brendan Hurley won the 100 backstroke in a conference-record 1:00.97. Derrick Kerbo won the diving competition with 367.25 points.

Austin Stees won the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.46.

Hurley, Kio Drum, Michael Smith and Josh Mefford won the 200 medley relay in 1:58.18.

Crouch, Hurley, Sherman and Thomas won the 200 freestyle relay in a conference-record 1:37.25.

Thomas, Smith, Sherman and Crouch won the 400 freestyle relay in a conference-record 3:34.81.

The season is over for all but two of the S-C team. Sherman and Kerbo will compete at state.

Sherman will compete in the 50 and 100 freestyle races, and Kerbo will participate in diving.
