ROUNDUP: S-C tops Lakers in road matchup

Evan Schnicker made several big shots, and Smith-Cotton excelled from the free throw line Tuesday night in Camdenton.
As a result, the Tigers basketball team beat the Lakers 62-48.
Schnicker scored a game-high 24 points that included four 3-pointers.
The Tigers made 12 of 15 free throws overall and 11 of 14 in the fourth quarter where they held a 22-14 scoring advantage.
Smith-Cotton (5-3) led 17-13 after one quarter, 29-20 at halftime and 40-34 after three quarters.
Kendal Brown joined Schnicker in double figures with 12 points.
Kyle Simpson paced Camdenton (5-4) with 19 points.
“We played with intensity. We played hard,” S-C coach Jimmy Lincoln said. “We ran our offense and ... our man defense was really good.”
The Tigers will host West Central Conference rival Warrensburg on Thursday night.
High school students may participate in a shootout at halftime of the JV and varsity games.
If someone makes a halfcourt shot in the JV game, he or she would win $50. If a shot is made in the varsity game, the prize would be $100.
Lincoln 64, Smithton 49
The Lincoln Cardinals didn’t play their best but were good enough to advance to the championship game of the Otterville Holiday Classic boys basketball tournament.
The Cardinals missed a bunch of free throws and overcame their big men’s foul troubles to rout Smithton on Tuesday night.
Jason Culpepper paced Lincoln with 25 points. Reserve Earl Pierce scored 11, and Josiah Casey had 10.
Robert Abney led Smithton with 11 points.
Lincoln led 10-9 after one quarter, 31-24 at halftime and 47-34 after three quarters.
Lincoln (7-2) will take on top-seeded Otterville in the championship game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Smithton (2-6) will face Northwest in the third-place game at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Otterville 57, Northwest 43
Top-seeded Otterville finished off the Northwest Mustangs in the fourth quarter Tuesday night in the semifinals of the Otterville Holiday Classic boys basketball tournament.
The Eagles outscored Northwest 19-8 in the fourth to improve to 8-3.
Northwest led 10-9 after one quarter, and the score was tied at 23 at halftime.
Otterville led 38-35 after three quarters.
Stetson Shirky paced Otterville with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Kaleb Gaskell scored 13 points, and Seth Pardoe had 12.
Logan Austin scored a game-high 25 points for Northwest. Teammate Trevor Durrill had 10.
Warsaw 60, Windsor 51
A Warsaw boys basketball team that didn’t win a game last season won its third straight Tuesday night.
The Wildcats outscored Windsor 11-2 in overtime to improve to 3-4.
Warsaw led 16-7 after one quarter, 29-22 at halftime and 43-41 after three quarters.
The score was tied at 49 at the end of regulation.
Cody Wright scored a game-high 18 points for Warsaw.
Corey Stackhouse added 15 and Johnny Eierman had 11.
Tony Balbirnie and Corey Buford led Windsor with 12 points each.
Iberia 75, Stover 61
Fourth-seeded Stover stumbled out of the gate Tuesday night in the first round of its own boys basketball tournament.
Iberia took a 16-4 lead after one quarter, and Stover couldn’t catch up.
Iberia outscored the Bulldogs 59-57 over the final three quarters.
Tyler Wilson paced Stover with 21 points. Spencer Bauer had 14, and Garrin Baughman 10.
Iberia’s Matt Edmonds scored a game-high 23 points.
Stover (5-4) will meet the Osage JV at 9 p.m. Thursday in a consolation semifinal.
Iberia will face top-seeded St. Elizabeth in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Westran 52, Pilot Grove 40
Third-seeded Westran pulled away in the second half Tuesday to win a first-round game at the New Franklin girls basketball tournament.
Westran led 22-20 at halftime before outscoring the Tigers 31-20 in the second half.
Whitney Wessing paced Pilot Grove (4-3) with 13 points. Hailey Bader had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Becca Schemmer scored a game-high 25 points for Westran.
Pilot Grove will meet Keytesville at 7:30 p.m. today in a consolation game. Westran will play Sturgeon at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals.
Sturgeon beat Keytesville 43-40 Tuesday night.
Cole Camp 46, Tipton 40
Second-seeded Cole Camp needed overtime to beat the Tipton Cardinals on Monday night in the Stover Invitational.
The Bluebirds outscored Tipton 8-2 in overtime of the girls basketball game.
Cole Camp led 5-4 after one quarter. Tipton led 17-12 at halftime and 24-23 after three quarters. The score was tied at 38 after four quarters.
Erin Rice paced Cole Camp with 20 points, five assists and three steals.
Jenna Cordes had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Kylie Romig led Tipton with 11 points.
Cole Camp will meet Iberia in the semifinals at 8 p.m. today.
