Big third quarter does in Mustangs

Slater scored 16 third-quarter points Friday night to beat Northwest 16-14 in a season-opening football game at Hughesville.
Northwest led 7-0 at halftime after scoring a second-quarter touchdown. The Mustangs scored their other TD in the fourth.
Northwest’s Zach Crooker rushed for a team-high 128 yards on 25 carries including one for a touchdown. Robert Rehmer scored the Mustangs’ other touchdown.
Crooker made a team-high 10 tackles. Trevor Durrill and Jordan Fowler each recovered a fumble.
