Semifinals set in district soccer tournament
Two Smith-Cotton girls qualified for the state cross country meet Saturday near Camdenton.
Jenny Paul placed 21st in a Class 4 sectional race in 21 minutes, 2 seconds. Elizabeth Ulmer finished 27th in 21:26 at Ha Ha Tonka Park.
The top 30 individuals advanced to the state meet Saturday in Jefferson City.
Claire Waldo was 41st in 21:56, Makayla Rupp was 52nd in 22:35, Brianna Platt was 70th in 23:29, Emily Webster was 71st in 23:37 and Jessica Ellis was 77th in 26:15.
“The girls all ran well. I don’t think any of them had a bad race,” S-C coach Tara Clark said.
The Lady Tigers finished seventh, 49 points behind the cutoff for state qualification. Only the top four teams advance to state.
Smith-Cotton’s only male runner, Anthony Beck, placed 43rd in 17:51.
“He finished in the top half. He ran a great race. He ran hard and that’s all you can ask for,” Clark said.
BOYS SOCCER
Class 1, District 7 tournament
The semifinals are set for the Class 1, District 7 boys soccer tournament.
Top-seeded Sacred Heart didn’t even have to play a game to advance. No. 8 Green Ridge forfeited the first-round game Saturday at Clover Dell Park.
The Gremlins will face Smithton at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the first semifinal.
Smithton beat La Monte 3-2 in overtime Saturday.
St. Paul Lutheran will meet Lee’s Summit Christian in the other semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Lee’s Summit Christian beat Wentworth Military Academy 6-0, and St. Paul Lutheran beat Holden 9-0 on Saturday.
The championship match is set for 6 p.m. Friday.
