The Sedalia Democrat

Two Smith-Cotton girls qualified for the state cross country meet Saturday near Camdenton.

Jenny Paul placed 21st in a Class 4 sectional race in 21 minutes, 2 seconds. Elizabeth Ulmer finished 27th in 21:26 at Ha Ha Tonka Park.

The top 30 individuals advanced to the state meet Saturday in Jefferson City.

Claire Waldo was 41st in 21:56, Makayla Rupp was 52nd in 22:35, Brianna Platt was 70th in 23:29, Emily Webster was 71st in 23:37 and Jessica Ellis was 77th in 26:15.

“The girls all ran well. I don’t think any of them had a bad race,” S-C coach Tara Clark said.

The Lady Tigers finished seventh, 49 points behind the cutoff for state qualification. Only the top four teams advance to state.

Smith-Cotton’s only male runner, Anthony Beck, placed 43rd in 17:51.

“He finished in the top half. He ran a great race. He ran hard and that’s all you can ask for,” Clark said.
