Smith-Cotton boys swimmers swamp MMA

Jeff Crouch, Ehan Sherman and Derek Thomas contributed to four first-place finishes to lead the Smith-Cotton Tigers to a 126-45 dual-meet win over Missouri Military Academy on the road Tuesday night.

The three dominant performances rounded out an effort where the Tigers placed first in 10 of the 11 events.

Individually, Crouch won the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.28 seconds, followed up by a top finish of 1 minute and 01.59 seconds in the 100 freestyle.

Sherman, who has qualified for state in the 50, 200 and 500 freestyle events, finished first in the 200 freestyle in 2:16.97 and first in the 500 freestyle in 4:57.66.

Thomas won the 200 individual medley in 2:41.43, followed by a top finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:11.68.

Thomas, Sherman and Crouch teamed up with Michael Smith for a first-place time of 4:21.25 in the 400 freestyle. In the 200 freestyle relay, Crouch, Smith, Kio Drum and Kyle McAllister placed first in 2:04.53 and Sherman, Thomas, Drum and Jacob Nielson finished first in the 200 medley relay in 2:13.49.

Nielson capped off the first-place showings with a time of 1:21.69 in the 100 backstroke. In the team’s only event where it placed outside of first, Drum placed second in the 100 breaststroke.
