Dobnikar places 13th in state diving meet

S-C senior improves on back-to-back 16th-place finishes

Smith-Cotton senior Quinton Dobnikar went out with a bang.

Dobnikar placed 13th in diving Saturday in the state boys swimming championships in St. Peters.

Dobnikar, who finished 16th the past two seasons, compiled a score of 334.35, beating 14th-place Jim Tyra, of Lindbergh, by 3.05 points.

Dobnikar finished only 0.2 points out of 11th place, which was shared by Eli Swaim, of Webb City, and Tyler Wade, of North Kansas City.

David Bonuchi, of Hickman, won easily with a score of 588.25. Ford McLiney, of Rockhurst, was second with 509.05.

Dobnikar finished 11th out of 34 in the prelims with 160.35. He placed ninth out of 20 in the semifinals with 248.55.

The top 16 advanced to the finals.
