PREP FOOTBALL REWIND: It's crunch time

Tipton, Warsaw go for district titles this week

The Sedalia Democrat

Most of the high school football district races have become cut and dry two-thirds of the way through the schedule.

Concordia, Versailles and Warsaw have secured spots in the playoffs and will meet in head-to-head matchups this week to determine the district winner.

Warsaw (2-0) will travel to El Dorado Springs (2-0) on Thursday night to determine the Class 2, District 13 winner.

Versailles (2-0) will host Osage (2-0) for the Class 3, District 9 championship on Friday night.

Concordia (2-0) will travel to Wellington-Napoleon (2-0) Friday night for the Class 1, District 10 championship.

Warsaw and Wellington-Napoleon are heavy favorites, but the Versailles-Osage game is too close the call.

The Tipton Cardinals control their own destiny in Class 1, District 8.

All the Cardinals (2-0) must do is beat Northwest (1-1) in Tipton on Friday night — a high likely outcome — to win the district crown.

Sweet Springs (1-1) remains in the hunt for the title but will likely finish second, earning the district’s other playoff spot.

Smith-Cotton dropped out of playoff contention Friday night after a 56-49 loss to Grain Valley.

Grain Valley (2-0) and Harrisonville (2-0) have locked up playoff spots in Smith-Cotton’s district (Class 4, District 13).

The two teams will meet in Harrisonville on Friday night for the district championship. Look for Harrisonville to come out on top.

Carrollton (2-0) has locked up the Class 2, District 14 title.

Even if the Trojans lose at Knob Noster on Thursday night, they would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over whoever wins the Higginsville-Lexington game on Friday night.

The winner of the Higginsville-Lexington matchup  would earn the district’s second playoff spot. My pick is Lexington.

Cole Camp, Knob Noster, Marshall, St. Paul Lutheran, Sacred Heart, Warrensburg and Windsor were eliminated from the playoff race Friday night.
