The Smith-Cotton boys soccer team will need some help in order to win their third straight West Central Conference title.
Warrensburg handed S-C its second conference loss, 3-0 Monday night at Warrensburg.
“We made three mistakes, and they capitalized,” S-C coach Ethan Weller said.
S-C fell to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play. Entering play Monday, the Tigers were tied with St. Pius X for first place.
St. Pius X played at O’Hara on Monday night and will wrap up conference play at Clinton tonight.
S-C will host Warrensburg in its league finale today at Susie Ditzfeld Field. The JV match is set for 5 p.m.
Sacred Heart 7, KC Lutheran 3
Chris Pottorff scored four goals and had one assist Monday to lead the Sacred Heart boys soccer team to victory in Kansas City.
He scored in the 10th, 16th, 52nd and 65th minutes.
Lakin Kehde had two goals, one in the third minute and another in the 39th minute that gave the Gremlins a 4-0 halftime lead.
Jacob Orell scored Sacred Heart’s other goal.
Kehde (2), Oscar Gonzalez and Wes Register recorded assists for the Gremlins, who improved to 15-6.
Smithton 4, Clinton 0
Tyler Miyashiro made four saves Monday to help the Smithton Tigers win a muddy match against Clinton at Smithton.
“A couple of (Tyler’s saves) were impressive,” Smithton coach Dave Holiway said. “It was muddy. They didn’t really have a lot of shots .”
Adam Wagenknecht had one goal and one assist. He scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute for a 1-0 lead.
He assisted Neal Mathews’ goal in the 55th.
Jacob Shull and Peyton Peck scored in the first half to give Smithton a 3-0 halftime lead.
Class 3, District 9
The Smith-Cotton Tigers will begin play in the Class 3, District 9 boys soccer tournament Saturday in Columbia.
The Tigers are the No. 5 seed in the five-team district and will meet No. 4 Hickman at 2 p.m. at Hickman High School.
The winner will face top-seeded Rock Bridge in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Nov. 3. No. 2 Jefferson City and No. 3 Troy Buchanan are set for the other semifinal at 7 p.m.
The championship match is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 5.
Class 1, District 7
The Sacred Heart Gremlins will attempt to win their first district title since 2003 in the Class 1, District 7 boys soccer tournament that begins Saturday at Clover Dell Park.
The Gremlins received the top seed and will wrap up the first round with a matchup against No. 8 Green Ridge at 4 p.m.
No. 3 Lee’s Summit Christian will meet No. 6 Wentworth Military Academy at 10 a.m. No. 2 St. Paul Lutheran will meet No. 7 Holden at noon, and No. 4 La Monte will meet No. 5 Smithton at 2 p.m.
The semifinals will be at 5 and 7 p.m. Nov. 3. The championship match is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 6.
