The Smith-Cotton boys swimming team didn’t win an event Thursday but was good enough to finish second in the Independent League Championship in Kansas City.
Rockhurst won the five-team meet comfortably, beating Smith-Cotton 216-116. Marshall was third with 95. Harrisonville was fourth with 40 and Pembroke Hill was fifth with 13.
Derrick Kerbo was second in diving with a score of 326.95.
Ehan Sherman was second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 27.21 seconds and fifth in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.82.
Jacob Nielson was fifth in the 100 backstroke in 1:10.06.
Derek Thomas was fifth in the 200 individual medley in 2:18.86 and fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.92.
Brendan Hurley was fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.40 and sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:27.49.
Michael Smith was sixth in the 200 freestyle in 2:08.88 and sixth in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.17.
Jeff Crouch was seventh in the 50 freestyle in 25.17 seconds and eighth in the 100 freestyle in 54.63.
Conner Hurley was sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:13.91 and eighth in the 200 freestyle in 2:24.64.

Austin Stees was fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.60 and eighth in the 200 individual medley in 2:34.61.
S-C was second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:35.01.
The Tigers’ 200 medley relay team placed third in 1:58.04.
S-C’s 200 freestyle relay team was third in 1:46.37.
