No matches found.Sectionals are up next for area track and field athletes
Cole Camp, Concordia, Knob Noster and Sweet Springs were the big winners this weekend at sectional track and field meets.
Knob Noster will send nine athletes and four relay teams in 15 events to the Class 2 sectional in Richmond.
Sweet Springs will send seven athletes and three relay teams in 12 events.
Concordia qualified five athletes and four relay teams in 15 events.
Cole Camp qualified four athletes and four relay teams in 11 events in a Class 2 sectional at Centralia.
Eleven athletes and four relay teams from Classes 1 and 2 from The Democrat’s coverage area brought home district championships.
• Benjamin Calvert, of Smithton, won the 1600 in 4:52.7 and the 3200 in 10:27.5.
• Adam Wagenknecht, Kyle Ferguson, Brandon O’Neill and Benjamin Calvert, all of Smithton, won the boys 4x800 in 9:00.5.
• Kinna Gooch, of Cole Camp, won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet and the 400 in 1 minutes, 1.3 seconds.
• Lindsay Sheffield, of Windsor, won the 100 hurdles in 17.4 and the 300 hurdles in 51.1.
• Hollie Heaper, of Sweet Springs, won the shot put (33-10).
• Dylan Wren, of Knob Noster, won the 110 hurdles in 16.0 and the 300 hurdles in 43.0.
• Conor Krause, of Knob Noster, won the 800 in 2:06.4.
• Joe Rittman, of Knob Noster, won the shot put (48-7.5).
• Trevor Hillis, Eric Gaudiello, Evan Rodgers and Conor Krause, all of Knob Noster, won the 4x800 in 8:44.4.
• Kyra Williams, of Knob Noster, won the high jump (5-0).
• J.R. Langkrahr, of Concordia, won the shot put (49-1).
• Tyler Frerking, of Concordia, won the 100 in 11.5 and the 200 in 23.4.
• Tina Guier, of Concordia, won the 3200 in 13:57.6.
• Concordia’s girls 4x800 relay won in 11:47.5.
• Concordia’s boys 4x100 won in 46.9.
Several other local athletes qualified in multiple events.
• Wagenknecht, of Smithton, was second in long jump (20-2), second in the 400 in 54.2 and fourth in triple jump (39-10).
• Brian Burnett, of Cole Camp, was third in 1600 in 4:42.4 and third in the 800 in 2:06.8.
• Kelsey Denney, of Cole Camp, was fourth in 100 in 12.9 and fourth in 200 in 27.6.
• Chelsea Hollrah, of Sweet Springs, tied for second in the high jump (5-0) and was third in the triple jump (32-0)
• Brittany Higgins, of Sweet Springs, was third in the long jump (15-4.5), fourth in the triple jump (31-11) and fourth in the 100 (13.5).
• Williams, of Knob Noster, not only won the high jump but was third in the 200 in 27.3.
• Lennel Barksdale, of St. Paul Lutheran, was third in the 400 in 56.6 and fourth in the 100 in 11.5.
• Taylor Bittiker, of Concordia, was third in the girls 1600 in 6:11.8 and fourth in the 800 in 2:50.3.
• Kamaran Dozler, of Concordia, was third in the girls 400 in 1:05.7 and fourth in the 200 in 28.6.
• One local school qualified only one athlete for sectionals. P.J. Grimes, of Otterville, was third in the boys 100 in 11.9.
Athletes of Concordia, Otterville, Smithton and Sweet Springs will compete in a Class 1 sectional meet and Knob Noster and Windsor will compete in a Class 2 sectional at Richmond.
Athletes from Cole Camp and Tipton will compete in a Class 2 sectional at Centralia.
